To stay independently thriving during the start of an economic downturn during the late 1950s, a 25 year old arts teacher and socialite is given the opportunity to elevate her lifestyle and secure her family’s future.

Desperate to keep her independence and status, she is introduced to a lucrative performing opportunity. While attempting to keep this new venture a secret, she simultaneously gains popularity, risking being exposed to and disowned by her mother. After being offered a promotion, she is left with two choices, become the headliner, or allow her family to lose everything.

Pictures Only is a short set in the neighborhood of Bronzeville, which was a model, showing that we can achieve great things in a less than perfect world, where black people were thought of as less than. As John McWhorter states, our story isn’t all struggle and we sometimes forget what we accomplished as a group.
