Duende en la Sombra

A documentary showcasing Asela Torres, a Cuban photographer who captured Miami's cultural life for over 50 years. Asela's persistence in a male-dominated field and her passion for photography resulted in many iconic images.

The documentary tells the life, work, and legacy of the outstanding Cuban photographer based in the USA: Asela Torres, who, through her lens, has captured the development of Miami's cultural life for over 50 years, especially in theater and shows. She has been a pioneer in the art of photography in many ways, and her passion for this profession is reflected in countless examples.

For an immigrant woman and photographer in the 1960s and 1970s, it was not easy, but she persisted and made her way in a world that was dominated by men. Among the personalities she has captured with her lens are Celia Cruz, Julio Iglesias, Rocío Dúrcal, and Camilo Sexto, among others.

This audiovisual work pays a well-deserved tribute to the legacy that Asela has contributed to the culture of South Florida and specifically to Cuban culture in exile.
